Silken tofu has a high protein content and heaps of vitamins which makes it fantastic for moisturising and improving the condition of the skin. Blending it into products also gives them a smooth, creamy consistency.
Silken tofu is created by coagulating soy milk without curdling it. It’s typically left unpressed, so it retains additional moisture is it cools. It is a natural emollient, binding oil and water together which helps to create a stable product that doesn't split. This property also helps to create a self-preserving product when used in combination with other ingredients.
With several Lush buying teams based around the globe focusing on sustainable and regenerative sourcing for their local area's production, material sources can vary. For the Lush UK production, organic silken tofu is bought in the USA, while for the Lush German production it is bought from a local producer who processes soya beans grown in Germany, in Austria, and occasionally in France.
