Comforting cocoa powder is not just for steaming cups of goodness, you know! Fair Trade cocoa powder adds a mouthwatering aroma that makes products smell so good, you'll want to eat them (don’t be tempted, though!). 

The cacao tree (Theobroma cacao) grows in warm, humid forests near the equator. It produces large dark red or yellow pods that contain up to 50 seeds each. A soft, edible flesh coats the seeds, also called cocoa beans. The beans undergo a process that involves covering them to allow for fermentation before being dried. This allows them to develop their familiar chocolatey smell. Once dried, the beans are roasted and then ground into a thick oily paste, which is subjected to high pressure to separate cocoa powder from the butter.
