Olibanum (or frankincense) resinoid is a fragrant ingredient that inspires calm and inner peace. It also cares for the skin.

What is an olibanum resinoid?

The Boswellia carterii tree, also known as Boswellia sacra, frankincense, or olibanum tree, releases a fragrant sap when tapped. This sap quickly hardens in contact with air and becomes resin. Depending on the need, this resin can be used as such or transformed. For use in cosmetics, it can be ground into powder, distilled into essential oil, or diluted into a resinoid to be more fluid and workable.

What does it smell like, and what are its benefits?

  • Olibanum resinoid is incense at its best, relaxing and meditative, with a citrusy, woody and refreshing scent. 
  • Due to its sticky, resinous nature, it creates a thin protective film that softens, soothes, and minimises the appearance of fine lines.

Where does Lush source this ingredient?

Our resinoid supplier is based in Marocco. The resin itself is harvested in Somaliland, an autonomous region in northern Somalia, home to more than half of the world's olibanum and myrrh trees.
