Where does Lush purchase these almonds?

Lush UK* sources ground almonds from Almendrehesa, a Spanish supplier located in Granada, from which we also purchase organic almond oil. The company was founded in 2016 by twenty farmers, driven by a desire to improve their land and their lives. Eight years later, there were more than fifty. They are part of a network called AlVelAl that aims to restore degraded ecosystems and land using regenerative farming techniques, among other things.

All farmers that Almendrehesa works with sign a Commitment to Regenerative Agriculture, which includes the minimum standards below:

• The use of compost as fertiliser and almond tree prunings as mulch. 
• Soil vegetation cover with careful management to increase water retention. 
• Water management practices, including the implementation of swales or ponds. 
• Erosion prevention practices, including dikes and dams. 
• Diversification of almond tree varieties used.

Lush’s ground almonds are made from 10% regeneratively grown organic almonds and 90% conventional almonds. They all come from the Andalusia region, and 99% of the crops are rain-fed.

What are the benefits of ground almonds?
