Eugenol is a fragrance material with the same warm, spicy aroma as clove. In mouth care, it is good for temporary relief from toothache pain, thanks to its antiseptic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.
Eugenol occurs naturally in clove, cinnamon and bay essential oils, among others. For example, it makes up 85% of clove oil. It is sometimes added to products in a synthetic version in order to benefit from its fragrance and soothing properties.
