Magnesium Sulfate
Whether plunged in a warm bath, dissolved in a foot soak or applied on hair, Epsom salts have a wide range of benefits in Lush cosmetics.
Lush UK purchases this ingredient from China as the source provides high quality salts.
With seven manufacturing sites across the globe, this information may vary depending on where your Lush products were made.
The salts were discovered in natural springs in the English city of Epsom, hence the name. While the common salt found on kitchen tables is made up of sodium chloride, Epsom salts are made up of magnesium sulphate (also spelt sulfate) – so their name is the only thing they have in common! Although to be fair, they also share many benefits for use in cosmetics.
Magnesium is an essential mineral, very important for human health. It is, among others, believed to play a role in muscle and tissue recovery as well as sleep quality. People have been bathing in magnesium-rich water for centuries, whether in the Dead Sea or in the hot springs of Epsom and Bath. The two most common forms found in cosmetics are magnesium chloride (used to make magnesium oil) and magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts).
